Peer Review Process

Publication of articles in Al-Mustasyar: Journal of Islamic Law depends entirely on their academic quality, scientific validity, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by the editorial team and independent peer reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s scientific contribution, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and its usefulness in advancing scholarship in Islamic Law. The journal highly appreciates the valuable time, expertise, and constructive feedback provided by reviewers.

Initial Evaluation of Manuscripts

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the editorial team. At this stage, manuscripts are evaluated for suitability with the journal’s focus and scope, originality, academic quality, formatting compliance, and adherence to publication ethics. Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage if they are found to be outside the journal’s scope, lacking originality, containing significant methodological weaknesses, or failing to meet the journal’s submission standards. Manuscripts that pass this initial evaluation will proceed to the peer review process.

Type of Peer Review

Al-Mustasyar: Journal of Islamic Law applies a double-blind peer review process, in which both the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process. Each manuscript is typically reviewed by two to three independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. Reviewers evaluate whether the manuscript demonstrates scientific merit, originality, coherence, and relevance for publication.

Reviewers are requested to assess the manuscript based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and contribution to the field of Islamic Law

  • Appropriateness and rigor of methodology
  • Compliance with ethical research and publication standards
  • Clarity and consistency in presenting findings and discussion
  • Validity of conclusions based on presented evidence
  • Relevance and adequacy of references to previous scholarly works

Reviewers are not expected to provide language proofreading or copyediting services. Language editing remains the responsibility of the author.

Editorial Decision

Based on reviewers’ reports and recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept Submission

The final publication decision rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor, who may consult members of the Editorial Board when necessary. The editor’s decision is final.
